The Ankeny Art Center is seeking sponsors to support its activities and events. Your involvement will help create cultural visibility for the community of Ankeny and form a path for generations to enjoy the arts.
The Ankeny Art Center is a nonprofit visual arts organization that serves not only Ankeny but also the surrounding communities Bondurant, Altoona, Urbandale, Johnston, Polk City and the Greater Northern Metro Area. All our operational funds are provided through fundraisers.
We are asking you to support our annual art auction called the Enrichment Gala being held on Saturday, August 28, at the White Oak Winery. Tickets will be $50.00 per person or $300 for a table of 8.
Our Enrichment Gala is a wonderful evening with wine, appetizers and auction items. There will be a silent auction as well as a live auction, with patrons competing for golf lessons, A pool party,  original art, and many more items. We would like to add your name to our list of supporters!

  • Donations can include products, services and specially designed events. Last year we had yoga lessons, a rhinestone cat collar and box seats to a Cubs game.
  • Cash sponsorships will have special acknowledgement in media advertising, brochures, posters, and signage. Your name/logo will appear on promotional materials including our newsletter, website information, and banners located in the area of the event.

  • All donations are tax-deductible. A letter will be sent to you after the auction with the item description and value of the donation.

A Representative from The Ankeny Art Center will be happy to pick up your donation. Please help us make this the event of the year for the arts!

New Intern at the Ankeny Art Center!

Carolyn Larson, student from the University of Iowa, has recently joined the Ankeny Art Center staff as an intern. She grew up in Ankeny but attended Des Moines Christian School where she graduated in 2005. Carolyn will receive her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Art History and Studio Art in May and will also be receiving a Museum Studies Certificate. She is currently working at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines as a Collections Intern through the Des Moines Center Internship Program at the University of Iowa. Wanting to have more involvement in an art museum and the Ankeny community, Carolyn has come to the Ankeny Art Center to volunteer, learn, and share her expertise in art and museums.
While in High School, Carolyn received numerous awards for her art and was featured at the ArtFest Midwest Art Show in Des Moines after receiving a scholarship for her artwork. During college, Carolyn was actively involved with groups on campus including the Undergraduate Art History Society and the Campus Museum Collective. She has volunteered and helped with several art organizations and museums including the Des Moines Arts Festival, the University of Iowa Museum of Art, and Johnson County Historical Society. Last summer Carolyn was the Education Intern for the Figge Art Museum in Davenport.
Carolyn hopes to continue her education and receive a master’s degree in Art History or Museum Studies in the near future. Ideally she’d like to have a career in museums, but as she says, “I’ve always had so many dreams and goals for myself. I’m interested in many things and can see myself doing an assortment of different jobs.”  She says she’d like to be a registrar for an art museum and travel, or be a curator and design exhibitions, or own a gallery and network with artists across the country. “Whatever I end up doing I know that the experiences I’m having now, through these internships, will ultimately shape what the future holds.” Carolyn hopes to work for the Ankeny Art Center for as long as she’s living in the community.

AAC Enrichment Gala a Grand Success

The Ankeny Art Center’s Enrichment Gala was held on September 19th at the Briarwood Club of Ankeny.  The Ankeny Art Center is a non profit organization.  The Enrichment Gala is one of its largest fundraisers.  The evening included hors d'oeuvres, drinks, as well as a silent and live auction. This year Briarwood provided the facility as well as delicious hors d'oeuvres.  They also donated a membership and four rounds of golf to our live and silent auctions.

The AAC sold over $5000 of art by area artists, including pottery by Nancy Briggs, a canvas print by Larry Zack, and Larry Anderson wildlife prints donated by ACME printing.    Dr. Philip Kohler donated an amazing animal wood carving that won 1st Place at the Iowa State Fair. Rick Herman was our auctioneer. Veridian Credit Union was the official sponsor.

Overall this years Enichment Gala was a grand evening and a huge success. The Ankeny Art Center is very pleased to have such great support from the community and it’ businesses.  Next year’s event should be an even bigger success!

Keep an ear out for more updates!

Gearing Up

Things are coming together for our first annual Green Festival which is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2009. We are hearing a lot of buzz around the water cooler. We think this may just be the best fest ever to happen on the AAC grounds!

Please look for us on the news that morning and keep an ear out for a mention on the radio!

Very Exciting stuff!

We are having some rennovations done to our building and parking lot! Sorry for the inconvenience! But it's going to be great when it gets done. It's a total make over which we have needed for a long long time.

Last month we had our lovely K-12 shows featuring artwork from Ankeny Schools, Bondurat, and North Polk. It always great to see the creative energy of the next generation. Always a good way to start off the sprin g as well!

Next up in the galleries we have D. Ryan Allen and Frank Hansen which we are really excited about. It's going to be a great mix up from our other recent shows. The opening reception is May 7 from 6-9. Come on out! It's going to be great.

Oooh, Also - the Ankeny Evening w/ The Arts was last week and it went off without a hitch! It was a great show with a great crowd and great music. Everyone involved had a really enjoyable experience and we are very glad!

If you haven't had a chance yet stop by the call for entries section and get signed up to be in our green festival! June 13

It's Cold! Warm up to some great art!

We know that it's winter and it's hard to get out from under the covers in the morning and harder to get your car started but there are still plenty of reasons to stop by the Ankeny Art Center.

Right now we have some of the most amazing oil paintings on the planet on display in our main and side galleries. It's our mother daughter exhibit featuring Betty Pope and Jane Graham. There are a series of portraits that are extraordinary along with some animal shots from Betty.

Jane's work is more lyrical and you can sense that most of her work comes from a story. She used traditional techniques but her work has a sort of folk feeling.

If this amazing artwork isn't enough to get you out of the house, we are working on putting together our winter class schedule. Be on the look out! We are going to make it so that you can sign up online! No paper!

More updates soon to come!

The Ankeny Art Center's Fourth Annual Photo Contest was a huge success.

Thursday night was the big opening and awards ceremony. The Ankeny Art Center was packed with people of all ages and backgrounds to not only see the wonderful photos that everyone submitted but also to see if they won a prize!

Unfortunately not everyone can place. There were 115 photos hanging up and over 30 different people in the show. Sam Tuomi and Ryan Omara had a hard time choosing which ones would win. They spent over three hours in the gallery picking through and debating on what should win.

Overall this years photo show was a huge success. We had a lot of fun putting it together and we were very pleased that so many people came together to enjoy their success with everyone else. The opening was a lot of fun!

This years winners were:

Best of Show – Mike Landwehr – Hibiscus Splendor

1st place – Megan Myhre – Untitled (House)

2nd Place – Dean A. Genth  - Fog

3rd Place – Barbara McGraw – Night Colors

Honorable Mention - Rotten Tomatoes – Linda Diane Brown

The Ankeny Art Center's Third Annual Enrichment Gala was held last weekend and it was a huge success. Many patrons turned out to support the art center and to enjoy an incredible evening filled with great food, drinks, music and of course, many people went home with some new artwork. All proceeds from the sales went to benefit the Ankeny Art Center.

The event was held at Albaugh Inc. International World Headquarters in Ankeny. Mr. Albaugh was nice enough to let us use his facility as well as let our patrons visit his private car collection which consists of over 100 classic cheverolet ranging many years.
